modo vs. other guys.
We get asked this a lot: how is Modo different from other carshares in town? We're different in many ways... here's how:
modo is a co-operative.
Modo is a member-owned not-for-profit co-op. We're part of a growing shared economy that believes in environmental, social and economic justice. We support and adhere to the co-operative principles and are proud members of the BC Co-operative Association. Our AGM is usually at the end of January.
modo is local.
Modo is proud to call Vancouver home; in fact, our co-op started out in the West End with two cars shared among a group of 16. Our member care centre is on Granville Street and employs dozens of staff in sustainable, local jobs. We don't charge our members to speak to someone.
modo is nearby.
With 300+ car locations in Metro Vancouver, we're all around town. Modo cars are located in North Vancouver, UBC, Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster and Surrey. And you're free to drive anywhere in North America for up to 30 days.
modo is an established leader in carsharing.
Founded in 1997, Modo was the first carsharing co-operative in North America and the first English-speaking carshare in the world. We're also a founding member of the international CarSharing Association and a signatory to the industry's Code of Ethics. We're accredited with the Better Business Bureau and are consistently rated A+.
modo is safe.
With $5 million in Third-Party Liability insurance, the only thing our members worry about is which one of our 280+ cars to drive that day. In the event of an unfortunate incident, members pay the first $500 for repairs, or they can pay into a damage pool or use collision loss damage insurance through their credit cards instead.
modo is cool with your class 7.
So you've had your 'N' licence for a few years? No big deal. As long as you meet our eligibility requirements, you are free to carshare just like our fully licenced members.
modo is friendly.
Modo helped carsharing start up on four continents, and we continue to lend a helping hand whenever we can. We have roaming agreements with other transit-oriented carsharing organizations around the world.
modo is affordable.
Modo cars are just $3/hour plus kilometres for co-op members, $6/hour for business members, or $7.50/hour for casual members - for all vehicle types. Also, through Modo, members can get an annual transit pass for about 15% less than a monthly pass.
modo likes rover.
Pets are part of our lives; Modo members are free to bring pets along for the ride, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind. For both you and your pet's safety, animals need to be kept in a pet carrier while in the vehicle. And as with all other messes, pet hair needs to be cleaned up too (those lint-rollers work great!)
modo is involved in our communities.
Modo provides carsharing for local organizations doing amazing work: Meals on Wheels, Qmunity, Vancouver Folk Music Festival, HUB and Out in Schools are just a few examples. Modo's donated carsharing helps these organizations accomplish great things in our communities.
