community calendar: september/october
September may be winding down but we have plenty of events left on the Modo Community Calendar. Take a look at what’s going on in the community and make some space in your own calendars!
September 21 – PS (Public Space) I Love U
September 26 – Westside Mobile Food Market
This is the last day for the our Community Partner, Westside Mobile Food Market. For seniors and others who have a hard time accessing fresh fruit and vegetables in their neighbourhood, this service helps them in a big way. Find them at the South Granville Seniors Centre (12th and Hemlock) from 11-1p.m. and the Marpole Neighbourhood House (70th and Hudson) from 2-4p.m. You can find information on how to support this mobile food market (and a fantastic video) at www.plentycampaign.ca.
September 28 – Modo Sharing Station at Metamorfest (FREE)
Modo is proud to sponsor Metamorfest, a Mount Pleasant community festival and block party, happening on Saturday, September 28. Our Sharing Station will be on Prince Albert, between Broadway and the 10th Avenue bike route, and will feature live demonstrations by The Vancouver Tool Library; games and opportunities for dialogue around building resilient communities and economies by representatives from Living The New Economy; and Park-a-Park, which will offer its mobile, parking-spot-sized parklet for meeting up and chilling out. Join us for a great afternoon in Mount Pleasant and listen to some great music later in the day by local band, Peace!
October 4-6 – Vancouver Art/Book Fair (FREE)
Our Community Partner, Project Space, is presenting the second annual Vancouver Art/Book Fair at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Nearly 100 local, national and international publishers of books, magazines, zines, printed ephemera and digital or other experimental forms of publication will be involved! There’s also on-site programs, performances and installations to enjoy during this two-day festival. Did you know this is the only international art/book fair in Canada, and only the second on the west coast? As an added bonus, if you mention the Art/Book Fair when signing up for a new Modo membership, we’ll waive the $20 registration fee and give you $20 in carsharing credit!
We’ll have more October events to share so stay tuned!
