Get Out and Give Back with the #Modo8k and Take a Hike
“They teach us to step up to the plate and take charge of our lives, because in reality, it’s our future and we need to make the right decisions to have a good future.” – Abbey*, journal entry
That journal entry was written by a Take a Hike student during a 4-day winter camping trip. It’s a message that a lot of students in the program come to learn in many different adventure situations.
Last year, Modo was lucky enough to get to know the Take a Hike Foundation community when we brought them on as our charity partner for the #Modo8k. The race may be months away – mark your calendar for March 22, 2015! – but we’re excited to celebrate this partnership throughout the year.
Take a Hike is an inspirational program that provides youth-at-risk with adventure-based learning opportunities that get them out of the classroom and connecting not only with nature, but their peers and neighbours.
Through academics, outdoor activities, community service and working with in-program therapists, Take a Hike has made a tremendous impact on many students and their families.
And its growing! With schools already operating in East Vancouver the West Kootenays, Take a Hike is expanding its program to Burnaby beginning this month!
As we gear up for the #Modo8k next spring, we’ll be sharing more inspirational stories and updates from the Take a Hike Foundation.
Register for the #Modo8k and support Take a Hike
If you’d like to join the team to support their efforts, sign up to run the 2015 Modo Spring Run-Off 8k (registration launches this weekend at the Eastside 10k!) and donate directly to Take a Hike yourself or join the Team Modo fundraising group to collect pledges from your community.
You’ll get to run a fun, beautiful course and give back!
