Help bring fresh, affordable food to seniors in Vancouver food deserts
Ever hear of a food desert? Vancouver has several, and this past summer, a new program took steps to reduce the impact food deserts have on communities located throughout the west side. And Modo was there to offer support.
The Westside Mobile Food Market is a unique program that brings fresh, affordable produce to seniors and others living in zones with few or no grocery stores or produce stands.
The mobile market set up shop at the South Granville Seniors Centre and Marpole Place Neighbourhood House throughout the summer, offering a reliable source of nutritious food – and more than a few smiles in the process.
Providing transportation sponsorship for the program, Modo’s support proved a vital link in helping the WMFM team execute the program.
Modo’s Hilary (pictured) and Anthony joined the Westside Mobile Food Market team in celebrating the program’s successful first year, over a shared meal at the South Granville Seniors Centre. (Thanks for the t-shirts!)
With their first season finished and a success, the team behind this mobile market is turning its attention to securing funding for next year – and you can help.
By signing their Plenty Pledge, you’ll add your voice to the hundreds who support sustainable solutions to end food deserts on the west side. Then, you can take this commitment a step further and donate directly to the Westside Mobile Food Market to help them realize their goals.
