Jul 11-14: Make and repair shared places with City Commons!
via Vancouver Tool Library’s Lauren McGuire-Wood:
The Vancouver Tool Library (VTL) is taking do-it-yourself to a whole new level from July 11-14 with City Commons, an interactive event that encourages community members to repair, transform, and make shared places.
By day, participants will collaborate on placemaking projects such as street murals, building community gardens and other food assets, educational or play areas, and neighbourhood sharing stations. In the evening, we will continue to gather for workshops, music, and theatrical performances that celebrate our communities.
The VTL serves individuals and families who wish to reduce their impact on our planet’s resources, learn new skills to use in their homes and communities, and contribute their time and energy to meaningful projects and initiatives. By providing support through resources, people power, and tools during City Commons, we will assist dedicated community members as they work together with their neighbours to create ‘common ground’, places that empower and engage them. Both the process of building and the places created will foster real and meaningful connections on a neighbourhood level.
If you’ve ever been to Portland’s Village Building Convergence, you’ll love City Commons!
Please join us for a special opening night event on July 10 at Safe Amp (Astorino’s).
