Modo and Kiwanis launch seniors-focused carshare program
Kiwanis Housing and Modo Partner to Offer Seniors an Innovative and Affordable Alternative to Car Ownership
West Vancouver, BC (September 28, 2017) – The Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society (KNSHS) announces it has partnered with Modo to launch an innovative new seniors’ carshare program, which hits the road today.
This innovative collaboration between two community-minded organizations will allow residents of the KNSHS to shed their cars and save money, while maintaining their independence through a dedicated resident-only carshare program.
Modo CEO Patrick Nangle says his team is thrilled to help the 70-year old housing society realize its vison and be first out the gate with this type of innovative amenity. “Although we’ve been providing carshare solutions for over 20 years, we’ve never done anything quite like this before,” says Nangle. “A dedicated carshare service just for KNSHS seniors is yet another way we’re helping to transform our communities through affordable and accessible programs.”
“We see the launch of the Kiwanis Housing Carshare Program at our West Vancouver property as just the beginning,” says Patrick McLaughlin, president of the Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society. “We believe dedicated, on-site carsharing for seniors is a great way to allow them to get rid of their cars, save money and continue to get around the community independently. It will also reduce the need for parking, which will reduce our building costs and make more efficient use of our precious land.”
Effective today, residents at Kiwanis Garden Village in West Vancouver will start sharing Modo’s 2018 Honda Fit, at greatly reduced rates. The Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society — who is subsidizing the cost of the program — expects to launch another dedicated vehicle in North Vancouver very soon, with the hope of paving the way for change and reduced dependency on privately owned vehicles.
With nearly 40% of all residents currently owning a car, the KNSHS plans to work with Modo to roll this program out to as many of their 700 residents as possible. Their goal is to offer more affordable accommodation to the growing number of seniors on the North Shore.
