Make an Impact & Join Modo’s Board

Why I Ran for Modo’s Board.
When the opportunity presented itself, I ran for Modo’s Board position last spring. I was looking for meaningful ways to give back and complement the experience I have gained during my many years in banking. I’ve worked with increasing responsibilities in commercial lending and trade finance over the last 10 years and was interested in finding other ways to connect with the community.
But you may wonder, why Modo? Let me tell you more!
Modo plays an integral part of my life as it’s given me the ability to access a diverse fleet of vehicles across the Lower Mainland. From running errands to moving apartments, visiting relatives, and most memorably, taking my newborn baby home from the hospital.
Growing up, the idea of owning a car meant freedom, independence, and opportunity. However, I soon realized that car ownership is costly and at times debilitating – both financially and mentally – keeping up with vehicle repairs and maintenance, in addition to the rising costs of insurance, gas, and parking.
I was drawn to Modo for its unique role in our community, both as a car sharing platform and as a member owned co-op.
Modo is a leader in the community by providing access to a wide variety of vehicles at affordable rates. Car sharing resonates with me as a great solution to have fewer cars on the road, enjoy less stress from car ownership, and contribute to better environmental outcomes. I believe car sharing is not only a win for co-op members, but also benefits the city as a whole.
I feel pride in being a part owner of Modo through the co-op model. To me, it reflects the values of many individuals who not only think of their ability to move people and goods, but also the impact to the environment and the community.
I quickly learned in our first Board meeting that I have so much more to learn! It’s truly a privilege to join the Board that is composed of fellow members with incredibly diverse work and life experiences. And even more importantly, the people running Modo are passionate and hardworking individuals.
