Member Feature: Modo Across the Border!
Hi there! My name is Lucia Floreano, I’m a Product Manager at a local apparel company and live on the West Side of Vancouver. I’ve been a Modo Member since I gave up my car a few years ago.
At the time, the main reason that I chose Modo over all the other carsharing companies was because of the ability to take the Modo car across the border into Washington State where my sister lives without any hassles of added insurance or additional costs. I often choose from the variety of different vehicles, which is ideal when I’m contemplating driving for convenience – small and compact (Daily Drives) that are easy to use when in downtown Seattle or something bigger (Large and Loadables) if I want to do some shopping or stopping at the great places to see along the I-5 corridor.
This winter, I used the Open Return option because I found it to be really helpful in keeping my trip (especially on the way back) more fluid, I didn’t have to worry about getting caught in unexpected border lineups or I-5 traffic and not being able to return the Modo car in time. Open Return allowed me to make a detour and visit the Snoqualmie Falls without feeling pressed for time. It’s a great place to visit, in fact, you can even stay the night at the beautiful Salish Lodge & Spa where Twin Peaks was filmed.
Pro-tip: when venturing across the border it’s important to top up your gas tank so you can make the drive without having to always keep your eyes on the gas gauge and gas station locations.
I’m so glad that Modo has this option; it really helps when planning a spontaneous trip and is perfect for uncertainties without having to feel stressed about returning the car on time, plus avoiding any penalties! Open Return allows you to use the car as long as you like, for up to 24-hours, without having to a set an end time in advance.
