Sharing Economy Panel
Early this year a group of local tech CEO’s called on the BC government to approve Uber. A week later, an open letter from BC tech workers asked that the province not do so until it creates a strategy for the on-demand and sharing economy that address taxation, regulation and employment standards, as well as opportunities for fuelling innovation, economic development, and local jobs. The question is how BC can encourage the best use of resources, foster innovation and technology, while also protecting workers, and supporting made-in-BC solutions that locate their offices and provide jobs here?
LOCO asks what types of sharing economy businesses can best create resilient, sustainable communities by providing the greatest environmental, economic and social benefits to our communities. What is the sharing economy? Who benefits from sharing economy businesses? Who doesn’t? How can/do sharing economy businesses create healthy communities? Provide environmental/economic/social benefits? In this panel, we feature:
Ryan Spong, Foodee (moderator)
Selena McLachlan, Modo
Daniel Dubois, Shareshed
Chris Diplock, The Sharing Project
