Modo & Victoria Car Share to amalgamate
Our teams are still buzzing after releasing the news of a friendly merge planned between Modo and Victoria Car Share, creating a seamless carsharing experience from the Island to the Lower Mainland.
Before the almagamation can go through, share-holding members of both carshares must approve it by voting at the Modo and Victoria annual general meetings, both scheduled for January 29, 2015.
If passed, the merge would launch next spring – but word has quickly spread already.
Quoted in BC Business, Modo CEO Nathalie Baudoin said,
“I’m so excited about the merge. From a business standpoint, but also from a friend standpoint, our values are very similar, and it’s great to be able to work in Victoria.”
And, as she told Metro News Vancouver:
“It will bring a much better experience for members.”
Berkhout said the decision came down to whether Victoria Car Share should take on the “pains and risk” of growth themselves or work with Modo “to make the leap to a bigger size car-sharing company.”
“What Modo can do in one year would take us four years,” he said.
Modo is the first carsharing co-op in the English-speaking world, and Victoria is the second, both incorporated in 1996 and launch in 1997.
We’ll be releasing more details over the coming months, so stay tuned.
