Press Release: Open Return
Modo raises the bar on convenience with its new Open Return option
Vancouver, BC (January 8, 2019) – Modo understands convenience is a close second to affordability when members join its carshare. According to a recent survey of members, 44% are unsure of their return time when they use the round-trip service.
Modo’s new Open Return option gives members peace of mind and ultimate flexibility. They can use the vehicle as long as they like, for up to 24 hours, without having to set an end time in advance. When they are done with the car, they simply end the booking and pay only for the time used.
With 94% of members favouring a more flexible return time, the region’s first and only co-operative carshare took its cue from members when launching Open Returns. Before today, the only way to book Modo’s round trip service was to set a return time in advance – a growing challenge for many of Modo’s members who want both affordability and convenience. “We don’t want our members to have to pad their booking with extra time or worry about being late,” says Modo CEO Patrick Nangle. “As a co-op, it’s important we be as affordable as possible while offering members a convenient and sustainable alternative to private car ownership.”
With four carshare operators in the region to choose from, Modo knows that being local and a co-operative is not always enough. “Until now, setting your return time in advance was the only way to book with us,” says Selena McLachlan, Director of Marketing. “But we know consumers love having choice. Our fleet variety has always given members the ability to choose the vehicle model that’s right for their trip. Now they can also choose the right return option.”
It’s expected that Open Return will give even more members cause to discard their cars and use active and sustainable transportation when they can, and further support the growing shared mobility movement in our region.
Modo started in 1997 as the first carshare co-operative in the region. To this day, it remains member-owned, driven by people not profit. Modo provides its round trip service, to more than 22,000 members and 900 businesses across the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Okanagan. Members get access to over 700 cars, trucks, SUVs and vans, with rates starting at just $5 per hour, including gas and insurance. www.modo.coop
