Q&A with Olympic hopeful, Lanni Marchant

Lanni Marchant is the current Canadian marathon record holder and based in Vancouver for her #RoadtoRio Summer Olympics training runs. Lanni is hoping to compete in both the women’s 10,000m and marathon. For the times “when these legs can’t make the trip”, Modo gets her around Vancouver, whether it’s to explore new trails or check in with her physio.

Why did you choose Vancouver as a training base?

I am training here in Vancouver for this Summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.  I have qualified for the 10,000m and marathon and picked Vancouver as my final training location because of the opportunity to have training partners, like my teammate Natasha Wodak, and because of the beautiful trails and training locations available to me out here.

How long have you been carsharing?

This is my first time using a carsharing program and I love it.  I make use of the Modo cars several times a week primarily for physio appointments.  I have my own car but it is currently down in the USA.  It is rare that I have my car or any car readily available to me during training camps, so I appreciate the availability of carsharing programs like Modo.

What’s your favourite Modo?

I seem to regularly book the Nissan Versa that’s a few blocks from me.

What does “own less, live more” mean to you?

For me, “own less, live more” means trimming the fat so you can get out there and enjoy life.

Where do you take your Modo?

I use my Modo to get to physio appointments downtown (I’m in Kits) and to get out to other appointments in Port Moody, North Van and Burnaby.

Favourite running route in Vancouver?

I love love love the different trail options here in Vancouver — Pacific Spirit Park & Stanley Park trails offer me miles and miles of soft surface running routes.  I also do a lot of my runs down and back to Jericho Beach/Spanish banks.

Favourite song to run to?

I don’t often run to music but I listen to it a lot before I head out the door.  My favourite pump up song (and also my “race day” alarm clock song) is Ground Shake by Dirty Radio (Vancouver band!).

We’d like to wish Lanni Marchant the best of luck on the #RoadToRio and we’ll be cheering you on from Vancouver!
