Report from CEO Nathalie Baudoin
First, I would like to thank you, our members, volunteers, staff and member-elected board, for being a vital part of the success of Modo. From my first day on the job, it was apparent that without you, the dramatic growth we have experienced in the past 4 years would not have been possible.
But that growth does not mean we can sit on our heels. Competition in the carsharing market is increasing – and fast. While our competitors have much deeper pockets, we have the advantage that we can be smarter and more nimble.
Our team continues to prove we can successfully deliver an affordable, top-notch service on a lean budget and with minimal staff, a service run on co-operative values with decisions made in the best interest of the larger community.
The secret of our success? Our members. At Modo, you don’t drive any car, you drive your car. And this car is shared with thousands of other members.
We rely on you to help us keep our costs down by observing the etiquette of good carsharing. When you keep the car tidy, run it through a carwash, report damage and pet mess – when you treat it as your own car, you help ensure the integrity of the service.
To further improve the member experience, this spring we will begin rolling out new features including a new app, booking site and upgraded onboard technology. These are important investments that will allow us to compete with the “big guys” in carsharing while helping us increase utilization, new membership and operational efficiencies.
We want people to be excited about Modo, and I really hope members will share the excitement that all of us staff and board members are feeling for the co-op’s bright future. I am very happy to introduce our new tagline “Share the future.”, which we feel evokes what we do, why we do it and the promise of what we can accomplish together.
We will never have the marketing budget of a multi-national corporation, but we do have something much more powerful: you, our members. So please, members, share the future, be our ambassadors. Every time you refer a friend, family member, colleague or favourite business, the co-op grows.
Once again I want to express my deep gratitude and ask you to continue to spread the good word.
