Young artists share Modo’s story as part of BC co-op story project
The youth empowerment and training arm of the BC Co-operatives Association has embarked on an exciting expedition: to uncover the stories of how the province’s most beloved co-ops came to be and how they serve their members.
A super rad initiative, The YES is a leadership camp aimed to train and empower young people for “self-awareness, co-operation, communication, leadership and global awareness,” with skills training they can take back to their communities. And its programming goes year round.
This week, The YES brings its travelling art show, Co-op Youth Story Project, to Vancouver. Through the project, young people interview staff from their favourite BC co-operative to get the back story on its genesis and growth and then create an artistic representation of that story.
Modo. The Car Co-op was selected to participate, and staff who were interviewed earlier in the year are eager to check out the final product!
The show opens with a reception November 8, 7-9 pm, at Athletes Village Housing Co-op at 151 West 1st Ave, and is open for viewing again on November 9, 5pm-7pm, and November 10, 10-1 pm.
The first stop of the show’s tour around BC was Nelson, last week. (See image above.) The next stop will be Duncan on Vancouver Island, November 30 to December 2.
Modo is very proud to support The YES in taking its art show across BC to share about and celebrate co-operatives and so has sponsored the project through driving credits. Here’s a nice note from Lindsey, one of the young organizers of the show:
Hi Hilary and Mona,
I wanted to send an update on the Story Project art show. The exhibit in Nelson went really well – we had good attendance and the show looked great! I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the show.
Thank you so much for your support. The van worked perfectly to get all of the art to and from Nelson! I also attached a picture of the van with a Story Project poster that one of our volunteers took.
We’ve now confirmed the dates, times and location for our Vancouver show and wanted to share them with you! They are as follows:
Nov. 8th, 7-9pm: Opening reception with snacks, beverages and speeches from some of the young artists.
Nov. 9th, 3-7pm: Open to public
Nov. 10th, 10am-1pm: Open to public
Would it be possible to share these with your networks? It would be great to see more co-op members at the show!
Thanks again for your support with this project!
See you at the show!
