Who we are looking for - a bit about you!

When you join Modo’s Fleet Care Team, you help fulfill Modo’s promise of an exceptional carsharing experience by keeping theModo fleet clean, inspected for safety, and by performing minor maintenance tasks.

You will help care for over 25 cars across Kelowna. Reporting to Modo’s Regional Fleet Manager, you’ll get to experience driving all sorts of makes and models when you jockey our cars around town.

Here’s what a typical day for you looks like:

Clean Vehicles (up to twice a month, depending on cleanliness):

  • Clean exteriors and interiors according to Modo standards.
  • Use a waterless, environmentally friendly solution for mobile car washing.
  • Perform tasks including vacuuming, dusting, wiping interior surfaces, glass cleaning, trash removal, fabric spot cleaning, door jams, and trunk cleaning.
  • Report lost and found items.
  • Distribute marketing materials, fuel cards, and snow brushes.

Inspect Vehicles:

  • Follow guidelines to meet safety requirements.
  • Address any safety issues, damage, or cosmetic issues that could affect the Modo brand.

Provide Minor Repairs:

  • Perform light maintenance and inspections according to Modo guidelines.
  • Drop off and pick up vehicles for service.
  • Refuel vehicles if below ¼ tank of fuel.
  • Fill windshield washer fluid, top up oil levels, and check coolant levels.
  • Inspect for damage.

Operational Support:

  • Jockey vehicles, replace insurance documents, and replace fuel cards in vehicles.
  • Report all services performed to the Regional Fleet Manager for monitoring.

The schedule is divided flexibly during daylight hours, with the caveat that at least 4 hours of work per week must be completed Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Compensation plan: Contractor to invoice Modo $24.60/hour and $50/month for cell phone usage.

Our ideal candidate would have most of the following qualifications and skills:

  • A valid Class 5 or 7N driver’s license and clean driving abstract for the past 2 years (in BC, this is called your Personal Driving Record) – you’ll be driving Modo cars, after all!
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or comprehension
  • Reliable cell phone with a data plan
  • Experience using messaging apps
  • Proficiency using devices such as a smartphone – our Fleet team uses these out on the road every day
  • Proficiency using web applications and programs such as Google Maps, and general office administrative programs like Google Suite or Microsoft Office

And we would love to know how you demonstrate these attributes that are just as important to succeed as part of our team:

  • great communication skills – the ability to talk about technical things with non-technical folks
  • exceptional attention to detail, especially those centred on safety
  • the ability to multi-task and use sound judgement to prioritize activities
  • organizational and time management abilities
  • interest in building or repairing things
  • initiative-taking and the ability to work independently and safely
  • service-oriented attitude and willingness to pitch in and collaborate

We encourage you – yes, You! – to apply, even if you feel you don’t meet all the requirements on our wish list. We value intelligence and creativity and know that some skills can be learned on the job. As part of the application please be sure tom submit a recent copy of your current driver's license and a recent copy of your Drivers Abstract along with your application.

Modo is a co-op founded on social purpose: we transform communities by connecting people with places in a way that’s affordable, convenient, inclusive, and sustainable. Driven by people – not profit – Modo was the first carshare to open shop in BC back in 1997. Our promise is to offer an exceptional carsharing experience.

Modo is a leader in the ever-changing shared mobility space, and our brand is well-recognized and respected. Our employees share a passion for social impact; it’s what draws us together to do our best.

Modo operates on the unceded and shared territories of many First Nations. Unceded because most Indigenous Peoples in this province never entered into Treaty with the Canadian government and shared because Indigenous lands are not divided by borders. Our main office is located on the unceded and shared ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

We and our members live and work on these lands, and our cars move across them. We appreciate and respect the long-standing tradition of Indigenous Peoples in caring for the land. We recognize the harm caused to the environment – land, air, and water – through the use of vehicles and commit to reducing that harm as a core part of our Purpose.
