Software Developer

As our Software Developer, you will develop and maintain Modo’s platform for the sharing of vehicles, implementing beautiful and effective user interfaces, clean and efficient API connections, and consistent, well-documented business logic. In this role, you will contribute to building a new and improved carsharing application while supporting existing platforms. You will collaborate closely with Modo stakeholders to design and deliver innovative features, using iterative feedback to continuously enhance the system and overall user experience.
This is a permanent, full-time remote role based in Vancouver, BC. While primarily remote, the team meets occasionally in person at our downtown office to collaborate and stay connected.

Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000 per annum.
What you'll do:
- Software development
- Produce clean and efficient code for Modo’s applications based on specifications, developing across the stack from stored database functions to user interface functionality.
- Design, prototype, implement, and document new product features while contributing to existing projects.
- Perform primary code reviews to ensure and maintain existing development and project standards.
- Collaborate with the Mobile App team to integrate the web and app platforms.
- Team collaboration
- Work collaboratively with the Dev Team to collect issues around bugs and accept user stories for new development.
- Engage and work with external stakeholders as needed.
What we are looking for:
- Computer Science degree or 3+ years of proven professional programming experience.
- At least 3 years of experience working with PHP or a similar language like C++, C#, Java, or Ruby.
- 2+ years of experience building and documenting RESTful APIs.
- A minimum of 2 years working with JavaScript or Python and working in a SQL database environment.
- At least 1 year of working experience with Laravel and/or React.
- Some experience working with versioning systems and React Native apps.
- Someone who has collaborated in an Agile/Kanban software development team.
- React Native experience.
- A technical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- A clear communicator able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- An awareness of modern technologies and the foresight to know when to use them vs. proven solutions.
- A self-directed, collaborative, service-oriented contributor.
- Open-minded team player with a unique perspective that challenges the status quo.
- A positive contributor who is willing to pitch in, aligns with Modo’s mission and values, and brings a positive, curious attitude to everything you do.
Bonus points if you:
- Have a good sense of humour.
- Comfortable working in a remote-first environment.
- Strong interest in co-op environment, carsharing, or social purpose organizations.
